Question by D77: To share a room or to not share a room? Any thoughts?
I have two daughters ages 5 and 3 and another little girl along the way. The new baby will be born in a couple of months and I am starting to get strong “nesting” impulses.

We are lucky to have three bedrooms in our house, so each girl could have her own bedroom.
However, if we give each daughter her own room, my husband will loose his office space and he sometimes does work from home.

My options are:
1. Give each girl their own room- find somewhere else in the house for my husband’s “office” and put a daybed in the baby’s room for when guests come. (We get a lot of overnight guests as are families live out of town and visit often).
2. Have the two older girls share the largest bedroom. If we choose this option we retain office and guest space.

The two older girls get along well most of the time and they play with the same toys. Putting them together might “contain the mess” and keep little pollypocket pieces from being all over the house and a choking hazard to the baby . It might make bedtime easier as I read them the same stories etc. One little girl (surprisingly the oldest) doesn’t like to be alone, so the comfort of having someone else in the room might be a good thing.

However, they do have their moments where they really get on each others nerves. They love the idea of sharing a room and having a special new room. I am afraid that the novelty will wear off quickly and being together all the time will be too much of a good thing.

Part of me thinks I should put them together because it is “character building”. The other part of me thinks that the girls deserve their own space and since they love each other so much and consider each their best friend, I don’t want to mess with a good thing.

I have never shared a room, so I have no idea what it is like. Does anyone have any experience with this? What do you think?
